Job Description
Purpose of the Role:
The Financial Accountant plays a critical role in managing month-end processes, commercial reporting, stock analysis, and audit preparation within the finance team. This position supports both operational and strategic initiatives, ensuring financial integrity, accuracy, and timely reporting for informed decision-making across the business.
Key Responsibilities:
Month-End Close (45%)
Lead pre-month-end adjustments, clearing prior period issues
Review month-end tasks prepared by Accountant, AP and Payroll
Collaborate with department heads to track and explain budget/forecast variances
Provide P&L reports and commentary by Day 4 and financial statements by Day 7
Maintain and review key balance sheet reconciliations
Commercial Reporting & Projects (25%)
Conduct detailed variance analysis on standard accounts and product costs
Partner with production to investigate variances in product costing
Deliver ad hoc reports and support key business initiatives
Year-End & Audit (15%)
Prepare year-end adjustments and liaise with external auditors
Coordinate documentation and fulfil audit data requirements
Stock & Inventory Finance (10%)
Manage the financial side of stocktakes and liaise with Loss Prevention
Report and analyse stocktake results and monthly SOH components with Production
Other Responsibilities (5%)
Mentor junior accountants and contribute to finance improvement projects
Support Financial Controller and CFO in broader strategic initiatives
Adhere to company policies, ensuring ethical, social, and environmental governance
Desired Skills and Experience
Skills & Experience Required
Qualifications: CPA or CA qualified
Experience: Minimum 3 years’ experience in a financial accounting role, preferably within a retail or product-based environment
Technical Skills:
Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, modelling, and data analysis
Experience with general ledger systems and financial reporting tools
Ability to work with large data sets and data warehouses
Communication:
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Confident in liaising with department heads and senior stakeholders
